The process

  • Step 1

    Making the required investments

A real estate or fund choice to be invested in and held for five years is selected, a tax number is obtained via a Portuguese attorney, and a bank account is formed. The required investment is then made.

  • Step 2

    Documents preparation

An elaborate and explicative list indicating the documents needed for the application is provided to the investor. If needed, our attorneys can also provide clarifications using document samples. Our attorneys prepare the required governmental paperwork. With a power of attorney, our staff obtains all document approvals.

  • Step 3

    Application submission

After making the required investment and preparing the application documents, they are sent to the Portuguese Border and Immigration Administration (SEF) along with the required state fees. The application can be made through a lawyer with power of attorney.

  • Step 4

    Visiting Portugal

After the application is approved, the applicant makes an appointment at a regional SEF office and visits Portugal to provide his/her biometric data, such as fingerprints, to the competent authorities. Thus, the application stage is completed.

  • Step 5

    Renewal of residency permit

This permit is renewed one year after the issuance of a residency permit. The permission is renewed every two years, and after five years, the applicant can apply for a permanent residence permit or for citizenship.
